Steps

  1. Allow about 1.5 hours for the whole descale.

    From the manual: “Please ensure you allow approximately 1.5 hour to complete the entire descale process”

  2. Empty the drip tray and slide it back in.

    From the manual: “Prepare for Descale a) Empty the drip tray and insert into position.”

  3. Switch the machine off and let it cool for at least 1 hour.

    From the manual: “Turn the machine off and allow to cool for at least 1 hour.”

  4. With it off, hold 1 CUP, then also hold POWER, for 3 seconds until the reset code shows.

    From the manual: “With the machine off, press and hold the 1 CUP button, then press and hold the POWER button together for 3 seconds.”

  5. Use UP or DOWN to reach dESC, then press MENU to enter Descale mode.

    From the manual: “Press the MENU button to enter Descale mode.”

  6. Pull off the grey silicone cover marked DESCALE ACCESS and lay a cloth over the drip tray.

    From the manual: “lower front panel marked DESCALE ACCESS. Place a cloth over the drip tray to stop steam escaping.”

  7. With a flat-head screwdriver, turn the right screw anticlockwise until the valve is fully open; steam may escape.

    From the manual: “Use a flat-head screwdriver to rotate the right screw counter-clockwise until the valve is fully open.”

  8. If no water comes out into the drip tray, hold 1 CUP for 3 seconds to release it. Optional

    From the manual: “If there's no water released into the drip tray, press and hold the 1 CUP button for 3 seconds.”

  9. Once the boiler is empty, close the valve clockwise until it seals, without overtightening.

    From the manual: “When the water is completely empty, close the valve by rotating screws clock-wise until sealed.”

  10. Drain the second boiler the same way through the left screw.

    From the manual: “Next, repeat the above process on the left screw.”

  11. Empty the drip tray, carefully, as it may be hot.

    From the manual: “Empty the drip tray. Use caution as the drip tray may be hot.”

  12. Empty the water tank and take the water filter out.

    From the manual: “Empty water tank, remove water filter.”

  13. Put the descale solution in the tank, top up with cold water to MAX and lock the tank in.

    From the manual: “Place descale solution into water tank, fill with cold water to MAX line”

  14. Press MANUAL; the boilers fill with solution and heat. Wait for the countdown to reach 0.

    From the manual: “Machine will fill boilers with descale solution and heat to temperature.”

  15. Press MANUAL to start the flush; the boilers fill with fresh water over a 20-minute countdown.

    From the manual: “Press MANUAL button to proceed. During this procedure, the LCD will show countdown time (20 minutes).”

  16. Cover the drip tray with a cloth again.

    From the manual: “Place a cloth over the drip tray to stop steam escaping.”

  17. Drain both boilers through the right and left screws as before.

    From the manual: “Empty boilers by repeating steps 2b and 2c.”

  18. Empty the drip tray and put it back.

    From the manual: “Empty drip tray and insert back to place.”

  19. Empty the tank, rinse it, fill it with clean water to MAX and lock it in.

    From the manual: “Empty water tank then rinse and fill with clean water to the MAX line.”

  20. Run the whole flush a second time to clear any remaining solution.

    From the manual: “We recommend flushing boilers again to ensure any residual descale solution is released from the boilers.”

  21. Press POWER to leave Descale mode.

    From the manual: “Press POWER button to escape the Descale mode.”
