Backflush the group with cleaner: Profitec Pro 500

Before you start

Tools
blind filter (supplied), portafilter, coffee filter basket to refit afterwards
Supplies
Profitec group cleaning tablets or powder (one tablet, or powder, per clean)

Steps

  1. Heat up to working pressure (1.0-1.25 bar) or to the PID's set temperature.

  2. Fit the blind filter in the portafilter.

  3. Drop in one cleaning tablet or a dose of cleaning powder.

  4. Lock the portafilter into the group.

    From the manual: “Clamp the portafilter into the brew group.”

  5. Raise the brew lever for about 20 seconds so the blind filter fills.

    From the manual: “Operate the group lever for approx.. 20 seconds.”

  6. Move the lever to its middle position, about 45°, and let the cleaner work; do not lower it fully.

    From the manual: “Let the detergent react, moving the group lever into the middle position, approx. 45°.”

  7. After about 1 minute, lower the lever fully so the oils drain out through the group.

    From the manual: “Move the lever into the lower position after approx. 1 minute.”

  8. Repeat the raise, hold and lower cycle up to 10 times, until the discharge runs clear. Repeat up to 10 times, until the discharge runs clear

    From the manual: “Repeat points 5-7 up to 10 times, until only clear water is discharged by the infusion cylinder.”

  9. Rinse the portafilter and blind filter under fresh water.

    From the manual: “Rinse the portafilter and the blind filter with fresh water.”

  10. Swap the blind filter for a coffee basket and lock the portafilter back in.

    From the manual: “Then replace the blind filter with the filter for coffee.”

  11. Run the lever for about 1 minute, then lower it.

    From the manual: “Operate the group lever for approx. 1 minute.”

  12. Take the portafilter out, rinse it and run the 1-minute flush once more.

    From the manual: “Remove the portafilter and repeat point 9.”
