Swap the shower screens and backflush with detergent: La Spaziale S1 Vivaldi II
Before you start
- Tools
- backflush disk, double basket, supplied key wrench, long-handled group brush (supplied wire brush or a Pallo brush), spare set of shower screens (supplied)
- Supplies
- espresso machine detergent (Cafiza, Joe Glo or similar) (1/3 tsp in the blind basket; also used to soak the screens)
Warnings

Steps
- With the machine on and fully heated, undo the shower screen bolt with the supplied key wrench.

- Drop out both screens and the dispersion disk.

- Scrub the group head with the long-handled brush while water runs through the group.

- Give the dispersion disk a quick scrub.

- Reassemble with the second, clean set of screens.

- Soak the removed screens in Cafiza, Joe Glo or a similar detergent, scrub, rinse and keep them for next time.

- Put the backflush disk in the double basket with 1/3 tsp of Cafiza and lock the portafilter in.

- Press the single-cup button; within 5-10 seconds the three yellow LEDs start to blink.

- As soon as they blink, press the single-cup button again to stop the pump, which opens the 3-way valve.

- Run that cycle 5 times, about 30 seconds apart. Repeat 5

- Rinse the leftover detergent out of the basket and lock the portafilter back in with the disk still fitted.

- Backflush 5 more cycles to rinse the group and 3-way valve. Repeat 5

- Take the disk out, pull a shot of espresso and throw it away.
