Backflush the group with cleaner: Slayer Single Group

Before you start

Tools
cleaning brush or towel, flat-head screwdriver, blind portafilter insert, portafilter, container for overnight soak
Supplies
approved espresso machine cleaning powder (for the backflush and the overnight soak; no dose stated); second set of dispersion screw and non-coated screen (Slayer recommends two sets, alternated at each end-of-day backflush)

Steps

  1. Scrub the portafilter gasket with a cleaning brush or towel to loosen oil and grounds.

  2. Take out the dispersion screw and screen with a flat-head screwdriver and rinse them in clean water.

  3. Wipe the face and sides of the dispersion block, and the portafilter body, with a clean damp towel.

  4. Soak the removed screw and screen overnight in hot water with approved espresso machine cleaning powder, then rinse well.

  5. Fit your second, clean set of dispersion screw and non-coated screen.

  6. Take the basket and spring out of the portafilter and soak them overnight with the screw and screen, then rinse.

  7. Put the blind insert in a portafilter, add approved cleaning powder, and lock it into the group.

  8. Press the round touch sensor near the middle of the screen to open the menu.

  9. Swipe from left to right until 'Group Cleaning' comes into view.

  10. Press the round sensor to start: after a 5-second countdown the program runs, counting down from 150.

  11. When the screen prompts, take the portafilter out and press the sensor; the group rinses itself for 15 seconds.

    From the manual: “The group will begin rinsing automatically and a timer will appear, counting down from “15”.”

  12. At the next prompt, remove the portafilter again and press the sensor to continue.

    From the manual: “Follow prompt on screen, removing portafilter from grouphead and pressing the round touch sensor to continue.”

  13. Take the blind insert out and wipe the portafilter body with a clean damp towel.

    From the manual: “Remove blind insert from portafilter and use a clean, damp towel to wipe oil and grounds from portafilter body.”

  14. Rinse the portafilter thoroughly with clean hot water.

    From the manual: “Thoroughly rinse portafilter with clean, hot water.”

  15. After the soak, refit the spring and basket and lock the portafilter into the group.

    From the manual: “Later, after soaking, reattach portafilter spring and basket and lock portafilter in grouphead.”
