Steps
- Unplug the machine and let it cool down fully.
From the manual: “I began by unplugging the machine and letting it cool down completely.”
- Take out the water reservoir, the drip pan and the tray so nothing spills.
From the manual: “Then I removed the water reservoir, drip pan, and tray.”
- Lay the machine on its back with the control buttons facing up.
From the manual: “I gently put the machine on its back with the control buttons facing up.”
- Undo the single centre screw of the shower screen with a short flat-head screwdriver; the screen and water jet breaker come away.
From the manual: “I used a short flat-head screwdriver to remove the single screw in the center of it.”
- If the screw or screen is stuck, spray the group with water and Cafiza and let it soak 10 minutes or more.
From the manual: “use a spray bottle to apply a solution of water and Cafiza to the group head”
- Work the old gasket out with a pick, levering one side then the other until it comes loose.
From the manual: “I had success by prying at one side, then the other, until the gasket was loose enough to come out.”
- If it will not grip, turn two small screws a few turns into the gasket and wiggle it out with pliers.
From the manual: “You can also screw a pair of small metal screws into the gasket to create a gripping point.”
- Soak the screen, water jet breaker and screw in water with Cafiza and scrub them with a group brush.
From the manual: “I soaked the shower screen, water jet breaker, and center screw in a bowl of water and some Cafiza solution”
- Brush the inside of the group, including the gasket groove, then dry it thoroughly.
From the manual: “I also used the group brush to clean the inside of the group head”
- Slide the new gasket in and press round it with your fingers until it is fully seated in the groove.
From the manual: “I just had to push on it with my fingers to make sure it was all the way into the groove.”
- Rinse the breaker, screen and screw and refit them with the screwdriver, snug but not overtight.
From the manual: “rinsed the water jet breaker, shower screen, and center screw and re-installed them with my flat-head screwdriver”
- Stand the machine up and refit the reservoir, drip pan and tray.
From the manual: “I tipped the machine back up and replaced the water reservoir, drip pan, and tray.”
- Heat up and pull a test shot to check the seal.
From the manual: “When Silvia was up to brewing temperature, I flicked the brew button on”
