Backflush the group with detergent: Rancilio Silvia
Before you start
- Tools
- blind filter disk or blind basket, supplied group brush, microfiber towel
- Supplies
- espresso machine cleaning detergent (tablets or powder; dose per the product's instructions)

Steps
- Take the portafilter out and flush the group for 3-4 seconds.
From the manual: “Purge the grouphead for 3 to 4 seconds.”
- Brush the gasket under the group head with the supplied brush.
From the manual: “Using the supplied brush, clean the portafilter gasket.”
- Fit the blind disk in the portafilter, or swap in a blind basket, and add the coffee-machine detergent.
From the manual: “Insert the blind filter disk into your portafilter (or swap the basket for the blind basket)”
- Lock the portafilter in and lift off the cup-holder grid.
From the manual: “Lock in the portafilter. Remove the cup-holder grid.”
- Switch the brew button on for 5 seconds, then off for 10 seconds.
From the manual: “Turn the brew button on for 5 seconds. Then turn it off for ten seconds.”
- Keep repeating that on/off cycle 8-10 times, until the water draining into the tray is clear.

- Remove the portafilter and the blind disk and rinse both in water.
From the manual: “Afterwards, remove the portafilter and take out the blind disk.”
- Refit the clean blind disk and lock the portafilter in again.

- Rinse the detergent out: brew 5 seconds on, 10 seconds off, 8-10 times.

- Empty the drip tray and clean it.

- Put the normal filter basket back in the portafilter and lock it into the group.
From the manual: “Insert the filter basket into the porta-filter and place it into the group head.”
- Refit the drip tray and cup-holder grid.
From the manual: “Reattach the drip tray and cup-holder grid.”
