Steps

  1. Take any water filter out of the reservoir.

From the manual: “If using a filter in your water reservoir, please remove it before starting the descale cycle.”

  2. Empty the main drip tray completely; some descale water ends up there.

From the manual: “Ensure the main drip tray is completely emptied, as some of the water brewed from the descale cycle will be deposited”

  3. Dissolve the Ninja descale powder in 37 fl oz of water in a separate container and pour it into the reservoir.

From the manual: “Dissolve the provided Ninja descale powder in a separate container with 37 fl. oz. of water.”

  4. Or instead pour in 16 oz of white vinegar and top up with water to the descale line. Optional Only when: instead of the descale powder

From the manual: “Fill the water reservoir with 16 oz. of white vinegar, then fill the reservoir to the descale line with water.”

  5. Put the double basket in the portafilter.

From the manual: “Insert the double basket into the portafilter.”

  6. Lock the portafilter into the group head.

  7. Set the milk jug on its platform with the steam wand inside it.

  8. Put an empty cup of at least 18 oz under the portafilter, removing the center drip tray if needed.

From the manual: “Place an empty cup (at least 18 oz.) under the portafilter.”

  9. Press DESCALE, then press the center dial to start.

From the manual: “Press the DESCALE button, then press the center dial to start the descale cycle.”

  10. Let it flush solution through the wand and portafilter for about 90 minutes; the panel counts down.

From the manual: “flush solution through the steam wand and portafilter for approximately 90 minutes.”

  11. Wait for the beep that ends the cycle.

From the manual: “The machine will beep indicating when the descale cycle is complete.”

  12. Carefully remove the portafilter, drip tray and milk jug; each holds water.

From the manual: “remove the portafilter, main drip tray, and milk jug with caution, as there will be water in each.”

  13. Empty them and hand-wash in warm soapy water so no solution taints the coffee.

From the manual: “Empty the contents of each and hand-wash with warm, soapy water”

  14. Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to, not over, the Max Fill line.

From the manual: “Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line.”
