Deep clean the burrs: Niche Zero
Before you start
- Time

- soft brush (supplied), hex driver (supplied), clean dry cloth, small handheld vacuum (optional), disposable nitrile gloves (optional)

- coffee beans for purging (18 g, discarded after grinding)
Warnings

Steps
- Unplug the grinder before you start.
From the manual: “you must always unplug the grinder before you begin.”
- Put on gloves; nitrile ones keep skin oils off the parts.

- Unscrew the bean hopper by hand and lift it off.
From the manual: “Gently unscrew and remove the hopper by hand.”
- Undo the central bolt with the supplied hex driver and remove the lock washer and NFC disc.
From the manual: “Using the hex driver supplied with your grinder, unscrew the central bolt, remove the lock washer and the NFC disc.”
- Lift out the upper burr, lower burr and sweeper and set them aside.
From the manual: “Take out the upper burr, lower burr, and sweeper.”
- If you will vacuum, take out the springs in the burr housing first so they are not sucked up.
From the manual: “The springs in the burr housing may come loose and can get sucked up when vacuuming.”
- With the grind cup in place to catch debris, brush the grinds out of the chamber.
From the manual: “Start with the soft brush to remove grinds from the chamber.”
- Optionally vacuum the chamber, then wipe it through with a clean dry cloth.
From the manual: “Finish by wiping through with the clean, dry cloth.”
- Brush, vacuum and wipe the burrs until clean, keeping them completely dry.

- Reassemble in order: springs, sweeper, lower burr, top burr, lock washer, NFC disc, then tighten the central bolt.

- Screw the hopper back on until hand tight, without overtightening.
From the manual: “Screw it in until hand tight. Do not overtighten.”
- Line the grind size indicator up with the calibration mark to recalibrate.
From the manual: “align your grind size indicator with the calibration mark.”
- Turn back to your usual grind setting; Niche suggests 20.
From the manual: “Then turn back to your chosen setting (we recommend 20).”
- Grind 18 g of beans and throw the grounds away.
From the manual: “After deep cleaning, run 18g of coffee beans through the Niche Zero and discard.”
