Deep clean the burrs and grease the threads: Niche Duo

Before you start

Tools
hex driver (supplied), supplied brush, soft toothbrush, small screwdriver (to lift the springs), cotton or nitrile gloves, soft microfibre cloths, vacuum (optional)

food-safe grease (a very light coat on the adjustment threads); coffee beans for purging (18 g, discarded after grinding)

Steps

  1. Unplug the grinder from the mains.

  2. Put the grind cup in place to catch loose grounds.

  3. Unscrew the bean hopper and set it aside.

  4. Lift out the upper burr and set it aside.

  5. Hook out the three springs in the outer ring with a small screwdriver and keep them safe.

  6. Undo the lower burr with the hex driver and set it aside.

  7. Brush the grounds out of the chamber, then wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth.

  8. Wearing gloves, clean the grinding faces of both burrs with a soft toothbrush.

  9. Clean the adjustment threads at the top of the chamber with a soft, dry toothbrush.

  10. Give the threads a very light coat of food-safe grease.

  11. Make sure the chamber is fully dry, then refit the lower burr and its screw, the springs and the upper burr.

  12. Screw the bean hopper back on.

  13. Brush out the chute, then wipe inside it as high as you can with a microfibre cloth over a finger, and dry it.

  14. Finish as for the light clean: wipe and dry the body, cord and lid, and wash the grind cup.

    From the manual: “Follow steps 9 and 10 of the light clean to finish the deep clean.”

  15. Grind 18 g of beans and throw the grounds away.

    From the manual: “run 18g of coffee beans through the grinder and discard.”
