Before you start

Steps
- Fill the water reservoir with undiluted white household vinegar.

- Leave the vinegar standing in the reservoir overnight.

- Take the reservoir off and tip the vinegar out into the sink.

- Rinse the reservoir twice: half-fill it with tap water, then pour it away.

- With the reservoir done, switch the unit off at the On/Off switch and unplug it.

- Fill the reservoir halfway with white vinegar.

- Lock in the portafilter with a filter but no coffee, and set a jar, carafe or cup on the drip tray under it.

- Plug in and switch on; once the 3 control-panel lights are solid, press Espresso/Custom twice. It stops by itself.

- Put a pitcher or cup holding at least 325 ml (11 oz) under the frothing tube.

- Throw away what collected in the cup.

- Run the internal-parts sequence again with plain tap water, as often as needed to clear the vinegar. Repeat until no vinegar remains
