Deep clean and grease the piston: Meticulous Espresso

Before you start

Tools
toothbrush (or any plastic-handled brush), microfiber cloth
Supplies
food-safe silicone grease (Molykote 111 Compound or Super Lube O-Ring Silicone Grease only); dish soap (mixed with water; no added chlorine or solvents); central piston O-ring (if replacing) (ID 34 mm, 3 mm cross-section, OD 40 mm, silicone VMQ, hardness 50), optional

Steps

  1. Unplug the machine from the mains and let it cool down completely.

  2. Take the piston out, following Meticulous's disassembly video.

  3. Dip a toothbrush in soapy water.

  4. Scrub the inside of the cylinder and the piston thoroughly.

  5. Dry the cylinder, the shower screen and the gasket completely before anything goes back in.

  6. Spread a small amount of the approved grease over the bottom 2 cm of the piston.

  7. Put the piston back by reversing the video's disassembly.

    From the manual: “Follow the instructions in the video to disassemble the piston.”
