Clean the grinding mechanism with GRINDZ: Mahlkönig X54 Allround Home

GRINDZ grinder cleaner (maker-recommended; quantity per the cleaner's own instructions); coffee beans for flushing (same amount as the cleaner, discarded)

Steps

  1. Set the grind to a medium setting.

  2. Lift off the bean hopper, beans and all, and tip the beans into another container for now.

  3. Fit the container module in the module area.

    From the manual: “Insert the container module (21) in the module area (11)”

  4. Pour the grinder cleaner straight into the grinding mechanism from above, in the amount its maker specifies.

    From the manual: “Pour the grinder cleaner into the grinding mechanism directly from above.”

  5. Brush any spilled cleaner out of the bean hopper intake.

    From the manual: “Remove any excess grinder cleaner from the bean hopper intake (4).”

  6. Refit the hopper with its sliding valve closed (position 2).

    From the manual: “keep it closed to the grinding mechanism (sliding valve (3) in position 2)”

  7. Put a bowl under the spout to catch the ground cleaner.

    From the manual: “Place a bowl in the module area under the spout (13) to collect the grinder cleaner.”

  8. Switch to Manual Grinding mode if needed and press START/STOP to grind.

    From the manual: “switch to the Manual Grinding mode and then press the START/STOP button (28) to start grinding.”

  9. Let the full grinding time run (90 seconds maximum) and repeat until all the cleaner is ground. Repeat until all the cleaner has been ground

    From the manual: “repeat the process several times if necessary until the grinder cleaner has been ground completely.”

  10. Push the sliding valve fully in to open the hopper to the burrs (position 3).

    From the manual: “Now push the sliding valve all the way in.”

  11. Grind the same weight of beans as cleaner to flush out the particles, setting your usual grind while it runs.

    From the manual: “Grind the same amount of espresso/coffee beans as you did grinder cleaner”

  12. Throw the ground cleaner and the flushing coffee away with household waste.

    From the manual: “Dispose of the ground grinder cleaner and the ground espresso/coffee beans”
