Warnings
- Never let the pump run dry: tilt the tank or top up with more solution if the level gets low. Source: Isomac ALBA/TEA use and maintenance manual (2007), via Wayback Machine
- Keep the group full of solution and under pressure during the soak; do not let it lose pressure. Source: Isomac ALBA/TEA use and maintenance manual (2007), via Wayback Machine
Steps
- Let the machine heat up for 5 minutes.
From the manual: “Let the machine heat up for 5 minutes;”
- Take the cartridge out of the tank filter, if one is fitted.
From the manual: “remove the cartridge from the filter, if fitted;”
- Put 300 cc of white vinegar and 100 cc of water in the tank.
From the manual: “put 300 cc white vinegar + 100 cc water in the container.”
- Alternatively, leave the tank full of water and put the intake pipes into a jug of the same vinegar mix. Optional
From the manual: “place the pipes in a separate measuring jug containing the vinegar and water solution”
- Run water through the group until it smells of vinegar.
From the manual: “let the water run through the unit until you can smell the vinegar solution in the water;”
- Then run water through the steam nozzle until it smells of vinegar too.
From the manual: “let the water run through the steam nozzle until it begins to smell of vinegar;”
- Fit the blind filter in the filter holder and lock it into the group.
From the manual: “Insert the blind filter in the filter holder and insert the filter holder into the unit;”
- Raise the lever for 6-8 seconds until the gauge reads 9-10 bar, then switch the machine off so the group stays under pressure.
From the manual: “Lift the lever for 6 - 8 seconds until the pressure reads 9 or 10 bar; then switch off the machine.”
- Leave it switched off overnight, about 12 hours, then empty the tank.
From the manual: “leave the machine switched off overnight (approximately 12 hours) then empty out the water container;”
- Wash the tank and fill it with clean water.
From the manual: “wash the container and fill it with clean water;”
- Lower the lever to release the pressure in the group.
From the manual: “depressurise the unit (by lowering the lever);”
- Switch on and let it heat for a few minutes; if the pressure passes 9 bar meanwhile, bleed water through the steam nozzle.
From the manual: “dispense water through the steam nozzle if the pressure should exceed 9 bar while the machine is heating”
- With the blind filter fitted, backflush 6 or 7 times as in the backflush routine. Repeat 6-7 times
From the manual: “back flush the machine 6 or 7 times (see paragraph 6.2);”
- Remove the filter holder and run the group for 20 seconds, then pause 15 seconds; do this 5 times. Repeat 5
From the manual: “dispense water through the unit for periods of 20 seconds, waiting for 15 seconds between each one”
- Run water from the steam nozzle until you cannot smell vinegar.
From the manual: “dispense water from the steam nozzle until you can no longer smell any vinegar;”
- Run water through the group until you cannot smell vinegar.
From the manual: “dispense water through the unit until you can no longer smell any vinegar;”
- Refit the blind filter and backflush 5 more times. Repeat 5
From the manual: “replace the blind filter and back flush 5 times”
- Switch off, refill the tank with clean water and start the machine as normal.
From the manual: “fill the container with clean water and start the machine again as described in the instruction manual;”
- Draw 30-40 cc from the group and from the steam nozzle and check neither smells or tastes of vinegar; if one does, flush more and check again.
From the manual: “dispense 30 - 40 cc of water through the unit into a container and make sure that it does not smell of vinegar”
