Replace the group gasket and shower screen: Gaggia Classic Pro
Before you start
- Tools
- short Phillips screwdriver, 5 mm Allen key, large flat-blade screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, two pointed screws (for a stuck gasket), stiff brush
- Supplies
- Gaggia group gasket (part GA-NG01/001 (per Whole Latte Love)); Gaggia shower screen (when replacing the screen), optional
Warnings

Steps
- Switch off, unplug and let the machine cool completely.

- Take off the reservoir, drip tray, drip pan and reservoir cover, and lay the machine on its back.

- Undo the shower screen screw with a short Phillips screwdriver and take the screen off.
From the manual: “Use a short Philips head screwdriver to remove the shower screen.”
- Remove the two Allen screws holding the shower holding plate with a 5 mm key.

- Let the plate drop out, or ease it out gently with a large flat-blade screwdriver.

- If the plate is seized, put the tips of open needle-nose pliers in the empty screw holes and twist hard. Optional

- Pull the old gasket out.
From the manual: “You should now be able to pull out your old group gasket.”
- If it is hard or stuck, turn two pointed screws partway into it on opposite sides and pull it out with pliers, one side then the other. Optional

- A very old gasket may have to come out piece by piece with needle-nose pliers. Optional

- Scrub the screen, holding plate and group with a stiff brush.
From the manual: “This is a good opportunity to clean the shower screen and brew group.”
- Clean the gasket groove and dry it.
From the manual: “Clean and dry the slot in the machine that the gasket fits into.”
- Slide the new gasket into the groove.

- Screw the holding plate back in, then the shower screen (a new one if you are replacing it).

- Lock the portafilter in firmly a couple of times to seat everything.

- Stand the machine up and refit the drip pan, drip tray and reservoir, then fill and plug in.
