Steps

  1. Unlock the portafilter by turning it right to left.

    From the manual: “Remove the filter holder from the unit by turning it from right to left”

  2. Take out the water tank and empty it.

  3. Pour in half the bottle of Gaggia descaler and top up with fresh water to the max mark.

    From the manual: “Pour HALF the content of the descaling solution into the water tank and fill it with fresh water up to the max level.”

  4. Switch on; run two cups (about 150 ml each) through the steam wand, then two through the group with the coffee button, then switch off.

    From the manual: “Dispense 2 cups of water (approximately 150 ml each)”

  5. Leave the solution to work for about 20 minutes with the machine off.

    From the manual: “Let the descaling solution take effect for approximately 20 minutes with the machine turned off.”

  6. Switch on, run another two cups through the wand and two through the group, then switch off and wait 3 minutes.

    From the manual: “leave it off for 3 minutes.”

  7. Keep repeating the previous step until the tank is empty. Repeat until the tank is empty

    From the manual: “until the water tank is completely empty.”

  8. Rinse the tank, fill it with fresh drinking water and empty the drip tray.

    From the manual: “Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh drinking water. Empty the drip tray.”

  9. Put a container under the wand, open the steam/hot water knob slowly anticlockwise, then press the brew and steam buttons.

    From the manual: “Place a container under the steam wand.”

  10. Run the whole tank out of the wand; stop with the brew and steam buttons and close the knob clockwise.

    From the manual: “Dispense the whole water tank content through the steam wand.”

  11. Refill the tank with fresh water and lock the portafilter in.

    From the manual: “Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water.”

  12. Put a container under the portafilter.

    From the manual: “Place a suitable container under the filter holder.”

  13. Press the coffee button and run the whole tank through the group, press it again to stop, then empty the container.

    From the manual: “dispense all the water in the tank.”

  14. Remove the portafilter and rinse it with fresh water.

    From the manual: “rinse it with fresh drinking water.”

  15. Repeat the rinse from the tank refill once more, for 4 tanks in total. Repeat once more

    From the manual: “for a total of 4 tanks.”

  16. Refill the tank with fresh water and, if needed, reprime the circuit.

    From the manual: “Refill the water tank with fresh water.”
