Oil the piston o-ring: Flair Classic
Before you start
- Tools
- clean cloth
- Supplies
- food-safe o-ring lubricant (light, odourless, flavourless; ideally an o-ring/valve lubricant such as Molykote 111 (of cooking oils, steam-refined coconut oil is best))
Warnings

Steps
- Lift the whole brew head off the frame, holding it by the cylinder’s silicone wrap and the top of the piston.
From the manual: “Remove the entire Brew Head from the Frame. Grip the silicone wrap on the Cylinder and the top of the piston”
- Draw the piston up and out of the cylinder.
From the manual: “Pull the Piston up and out of the Cylinder with the Portafilter attached.”
- Rinse the piston and the other brewing parts in cool water, keeping the gauge dry.
From the manual: “Once grounds are removed, rinse all brewing parts in cool water.”
- Put a light film of food-safe oil on the piston o-ring.
From the manual: “applying a light application of food-safe oil to the plunger o-ring”
- Wipe off whatever oil is left on the surface.
From the manual: “Always keep the application of lubricant light and wipe away any excess.”
