Descale the machine (original Apex, v1): DF64 Apex
Before you start
- Tools
- cup or container of at least 150 ml
- Supplies
- household descaler (4:1 water to descaler, tank filled to MAX); citric acid (substitute) (100:3 water to citric acid), optional

Steps
- Fill the tank to MAX with water and descaler at 4:1, or with citric acid at 100:3.

- Lock the empty portafilter, with no coffee in it, into the group head.

- Once the coffee light stays on, press the coffee button, run about 150 ml, and switch it off.

- Switch on steam; when the steam light is steady, open the knob and release steam for about 2 minutes, then close it.

- Leave the descaler to work inside the machine for at least 15 minutes.

- Repeat the brew, steam and wait round 3 times. Repeat 3

- Brew through the empty portafilter until no descaler is left.

- Rinse: repeat the brew-and-steam round 3 times without the 15-minute wait, then brew until the boiler is empty.

- Do that rinse at least 3 times so the pipes are clean. Repeat at least 3 times
