Steps

  1. Knock out the grounds and rinse the portafilter.

    From the manual: “Remove the grounds and rinse the portafilter.”

  2. Swap the coffee basket for the supplied blind basket, the one with no holes.

    From the manual: “Replace the coffee basket with a blind basket (a basket with no holes in it).”

  3. Lock the portafilter with the blind basket into the group head.

    From the manual: “Insert the portafilter with the blind basket into the group head.”

  4. Press the Flush button on the left of the group head, and do it at least twice. Repeat at least twice

    From the manual: “Best practice: do it at least twice.”

  5. Alternatively, select Settings > Presets > Forward Flush x 5 and tap the coffee button: the machine runs five water shots into the blind basket. Optional

    From the manual: “The machine will cycle through five shots of hot water into the blind basket.”

  6. If you used the preset, switch back to your usual coffee preset and press OK. Optional

    From the manual: “Change the preset back to your favorite coffee setting”

  7. Put an empty coffee basket in place of the blind basket and flush once more to rinse the underside of the group.

    From the manual: “Remove the blind basket from the portafilter and replace it with an empty coffee basket.”

  8. Finish by wiping the shower screen under the group head.

    From the manual: “Wipe the shower screen on the underside of the group head when you’re done.”
