Decalcify the brew head and frother: Capresso EC100
Before you start
- Tools
- large bowl, pitcher, screwdriver for the brew-head screen screw, damp cloth
- Supplies
- commercial decalcifying agent (mixed as its own instructions say), optional; tartaric or citric acid (4 tablespoons dissolved in 30 oz water (alternative to a commercial agent)), optional

Steps
- Take the portafilter out of the brew head.

- For the best result, unscrew the brew-head screen and wipe off coffee residue with a damp cloth. Optional

- Fill the water container with the decalcifying solution.

- Put a large bowl under the brew head.

- Switch on and turn the Selector Dial to the cup symbol; pump a third to a half of the solution through (no need to wait for the green light).

- Stop the flow by returning the Selector Dial to the middle.

- Leave the machine to stand for about 10 minutes.

- Pull the black frothing sleeve off the steam wand.

- Dip the steam wand into a pitcher holding 6 to 8 oz of cold water.

- Turn the dial to the steam symbol for about 30 seconds, then back; do this three or four times. Repeat 3 or 4 times

- Pump the rest of the solution through the brew head.

- Rinse the water container well and refill it with fresh cold water.

- Repeat the bowl, pump, stop and 10-minute stand (steps 4 to 7) using the fresh water.

- Refit the brew-head screen and tighten its screw firmly.
