Replace the dispersion screen: Cafelat Robot
Before you start
- Tools
- None listed
- Supplies
- Robot filter screen (spare metal screen, or the Robot paper filters instead)
Warnings
- Do not pump the arms up and down: the screen shifts and the piston strikes it. Source: Cafelat Robot user manual 2.0, June 2020 (linked from cafelat.com/robot.html)
Steps
- Judge the damage first: a screen that is only dented or a little bent still works.
From the manual: “A dented or slightly bent screen will still function perfectly”
- Swap a badly damaged screen for the spare, or switch to the paper filters.
From the manual: “It is a good idea to have a spare on hand or use the paper filters instead.”
- Press the new screen firmly onto the tamped coffee and keep it level, with the centre pin upright.
From the manual: “We recommend firmly pressing the screen in place, and ensuring that it is level so that the centre pin is straight.”
- Dose at least 10 g under the metal screen so it rests on the coffee, not the basket taper. Only when: every shot
From the manual: “it is important not to dose less than 10g with the metal screen otherwise it will not sit correctly and may get damaged”
- On the second push, stop as soon as you feel the piston touching the screen. Only when: every shot
From the manual: “when you push down for the 2nd time stop if you feel the piston is pushing against the screen”
