Steps

  1. Take the old pad out of the tank and throw it in the household waste.

From the manual: “Simply dispose of your used BWT bestsave limescale protection pads in the waste.”

  2. Unpack the new pad and rinse it briefly under the tap.

From the manual: “give it a quick rinse under the tap”

  3. Lay it flat on the floor of the machine's water tank.

From the manual: “place it directly on the bottom of the water tank in your coffee machine”

  4. Fill the tank and give the pad 8-10 hours to soften that water before you brew.

From the manual: “With the tank full, the ion exchanger takes 8–10 hours to remove the calcium”

  5. Do this in the evening so the water is ready by morning. Optional

From the manual: “For best results carry out the optimization over night”

  6. Look up how many tank refills the pad lasts from your water hardness and tank size in BWT's table, and count them.

From the manual: “match your local limescale content (water hardness) with the size of the water tank used and read off the number of refills”

  7. Swap the pad when that number of refills is reached.

From the manual: “Change the bestsave limescale protection pad as soon as the maximum number of units (number of tank refills) have been reached.”
