Plunger seal replacement: AeroPress Original
Before you start
- Tools
- cutting board or other flat surface
- Supplies
- AeroPress replacement seal (sold by AeroPress)
Steps
- For a temporary fix, soak the plunger’s rubber end in hot water for a couple of minutes. Optional
From the manual: “First place the rubber end of the plunger in some hot water for a couple minutes.”
- Then press it onto a flat surface and roll the seal around on its edge to widen it. Optional
From the manual: “While pressing roll the seal around on its edge so that you are pressing the edge out”
- To replace it, pull the old seal off the plunger end; it is not glued.
From the manual: “There is no adhesive on the seal, so you can easily remove it and then replace it on the AeroPress plunger.”
- Set the new seal on the end of the plunger.

- Twist the seal while pressing it on until it is fully seated.
From the manual: “turn the seal while pressing it onto the plunger until it gets fully seated”
- After every brew, eject the puck straight away and store the seal pushed through or out of the chamber. Only when: after each use
From the manual: “eject the spent coffee immediately after every pressing and store the seal either pushed all the way through or removed from the chamber”
