Dismantle and brush the burrs: 1Zpresso K-Ultra

Steps

  1. Take off the crank handle and the catch cup.

    From the manual: “Remove the crank handle and the catch-cup.”

  2. Turn the adjustment dial clockwise towards coarse so the burrs open.

    From the manual: “Turn the adjustment dial ring clockwise to coarser grind settings as the burrs open up.”

  3. Push the inner burr up from below and unscrew the knurled thumb nut counterclockwise.

    From the manual: “Loosen the knurled thumb nut by turning it counterclockwise while pushing the burr.”

  4. Lift the upper bearing cap and the upper bearing out from the top.

    From the manual: “remove the upper bearing cap and upper bearing from the top.”

  5. Pull out the shaft with the inner burr, then the lower bearing cover and the spring.

    From the manual: “Remove the shaft, inner burr, lower bearing cover, and spring.”

  6. Unscrew the burr ring unit and the whole adjustment dial unit clockwise and take them off.

    From the manual: “Detach the burr ring unit and the entire adjustment dial unit by turning it clockwise.”

  7. Brush every part clean and blow the dust out with an air blower; use no water.

    From the manual: “Clean all parts using a brush and an air blower.”

  8. On a fixed crank handle, unscrew the PC lid counterclockwise (some need a 6 mm hex key), pull off the wooden knob and brush both clean. Optional Only when: fixed (non-folding) crank handle

    From the manual: “Take out the pc lid by turn counter-clockwise throughout cleaning.”

  9. Screw the adjustment dial unit back on counterclockwise until it is at its tightest.

    From the manual: “Turn the entire adjustment dial unit counterclockwise to its tightest position.”

  10. Turn the adjustment dial clockwise to a coarse setting.

    From the manual: “Rotate the adjustment dial ring clockwise to set a coarser grind setting.”

  11. Screw the burr ring unit back on counterclockwise until it is at its tightest.

    From the manual: “Turn the burr ring unit counterclockwise to its tightest position.”

  12. Slide the spring onto the shaft, then the bearing cap with its raised edge up, and set the shaft back in the grinder.

    From the manual: “Insert the spring followed by the bearing cap (raised edge facing upward) onto the shaft”

  13. Holding the burr up, refit the upper bearing and then the upper bearing cap, dotted side up.

    From the manual: “reinstall the upper bearing and upper bearing cap (dotted side facing upward).”

  14. Still pushing the burr up, screw the knurled thumb nut clockwise and stop at the first resistance.

    From the manual: “Turn the knurled thumb nut clockwise while pushing the burr, stopping when you feel resistance.”

  15. Find zero: turn the dial counterclockwise until the handle starts to turn with resistance, not to the tightest point.

    From the manual: “Turn the adjustment dial ring counterclockwise until you feel resistance (the handle starts to spin with resistance)”

  16. If the pointer sits right of #0, open the dial coarser, ease the thumb nut slightly counterclockwise while holding the burr, then recheck zero. Only when: pointer right of #0 at zero Repeat until the pointer reads #0

  17. If the pointer sits left of #0, open the dial coarser, snug the thumb nut slightly clockwise while holding the burr, then recheck zero. Only when: pointer left of #0 at zero Repeat until the pointer reads #0
