Steps
- Take off the crank handle and the catch cup.
From the manual: “Remove the crank handle and the catch-cup.”
- Turn the adjustment dial clockwise towards coarse so the burrs open.
From the manual: “Turn the adjustment dial ring clockwise to coarser grind settings as the burrs open up.”
- Push the inner burr up from below and unscrew the knurled thumb nut counterclockwise.
From the manual: “Loosen the knurled thumb nut by turning it counterclockwise while pushing the burr.”
- Lift the upper bearing cap and the upper bearing out from the top.
From the manual: “remove the upper bearing cap and upper bearing from the top.”
- Pull out the shaft with the inner burr, then the lower bearing cover and the spring.
From the manual: “Remove the shaft, inner burr, lower bearing cover, and spring.”
- Unscrew the burr ring unit and the whole adjustment dial unit clockwise and take them off.
From the manual: “Detach the burr ring unit and the entire adjustment dial unit by turning it clockwise.”
- If the outer burr ring is hard to grip, fit the catch cup onto it and use that to turn it clockwise. Optional Only when: ZP6 Special
From the manual: “Attaching the catch-cup to remove the outer burr ring by turning clockwise.”
- Brush every part clean and blow the dust out with an air blower; use no water.
From the manual: “Clean all parts using a brush and an air blower.”
- On a fixed crank handle, unscrew the PC lid counterclockwise (some need a 6 mm hex key), pull off the wooden knob and brush both clean. Optional Only when: fixed (non-folding) crank handle
From the manual: “Take out the pc lid by turn counter-clockwise throughout cleaning.”
- Screw the adjustment dial unit back on counterclockwise until it is at its tightest.
From the manual: “Turn the entire adjustment dial unit counterclockwise to its tightest position.”
- Turn the adjustment dial clockwise to a coarse setting.
From the manual: “Rotate the adjustment dial ring clockwise to set a coarser grind setting.”

From the manual: “Turn the burr ring unit counterclockwise to its tightest position.”
- Slide the spring onto the shaft, then the bearing cap with its raised edge up, and set the shaft back in the grinder.
From the manual: “Insert the spring followed by the bearing cap (raised edge facing upward) onto the shaft”
- Holding the burr up, refit the upper bearing and then the upper bearing cap, dotted side up.
From the manual: “reinstall the upper bearing and upper bearing cap (dotted side facing upward).”
- Still pushing the burr up, screw the knurled thumb nut clockwise and stop at the first resistance.
From the manual: “Turn the knurled thumb nut clockwise while pushing the burr, stopping when you feel resistance.”
- Find zero: turn the dial counterclockwise until the handle starts to turn with resistance, not to the tightest point.
From the manual: “Turn the adjustment dial ring counterclockwise until you feel resistance (the handle starts to spin with resistance)”
- If the pointer sits right of #0, open the dial coarser, ease the thumb nut slightly counterclockwise while holding the burr, then recheck zero. Only when: pointer right of #0 at zero Repeat until the pointer reads #0
From the manual: “If the Dial Pointer is to the Right of #0”
- If the pointer sits left of #0, open the dial coarser, snug the thumb nut slightly clockwise while holding the burr, then recheck zero. Only when: pointer left of #0 at zero Repeat until the pointer reads #0
