Dismantle and brush the burrs: 1Zpresso J-Max

Warnings

Steps
- Take off the crank handle and the catch cup.

- Turn the adjustment dial clockwise by about two rotations.

- Holding the burr up from below, unscrew the knurled thumb nut counterclockwise and remove it.

- Lift out the upper bearing cap and the upper bearing.

- Take out the burr with its central shaft, then the spring and the lower bearing cap.

- Only now unscrew the burr ring unit by turning it forward; it has a reverse thread.

- Clean the parts with a brush and an air blower, never with water.

- On a fixed crank handle, unscrew the PC lid counterclockwise (some need a 6 mm hex key), pull off the wooden knob and brush both clean. Optional Only when: fixed (non-folding) crank handle

- Screw the burr ring unit back by turning it backward until it is at its tightest.

- Line #0 up with the scale mark, with the dial ring's lower edge touching the first tier of the mark.
From the manual: “Align the #0 with the scale mark and the bottom edge of the adjustment dial ring touches the first tier”
- Refit in order: lower bearing cap with its raised edge up, then spring, then shaft and burr.
From the manual: “lower bearing cap (the raised edge side facing upward), spring, shaft and burr.”
- Drop the upper bearing back in from the top.
From the manual: “Put the upper bearing back from the top.”
- Holding the burr up, refit the upper bearing cap with the concave dots up and its U-shaped hole over the shaft.
From the manual: “The side with concave dots faces upward, and the U-shaped hole fits the shaft properly.”
- Keep pressing the burr up and tighten the knurled thumb nut; this sets the calibration.
From the manual: “Tighten the knurled thumb nut to calibrate the grinder while pressing the burr from the bottom.”
- Check zero: turn the dial counterclockwise to where resistance starts and the handle no longer spins freely.
